Static Scenes

Static Scenes

Feb 18, 2021

Because sometimes I just like a static scene. Don't you?

Static scenes don't always have to be saturated sunsets, bucolic landscapes or hazy cityscapes. Sometimes the most mundane scenes are worth photographing. My mind wanders when I see scenes like these.

Clearly the bricks are being used a weights, for some reason. Is that door a lid for the metal container? Or is there something being flattened beneath that door?

And what are those puffy balls behind the window all about? Is the entire room stuffed with these things?

And where is everybody?

Again, where is everybody? I think we can assume what's happening here. There's likely a new floor being laid. But it could be a child's plaything - a slide down to the lawn. Mind you, the widow would be open wider.

But you get the idea. Scenes like this can get you wondering about what's going on. They can lead to imaginings of varying scenarios and stories.

This is a boring picture perhaps but you can wonder as to how these lighters came to be recklessly discarded and scattered about the place. Do any of them actually still work? Was it an accidental spillage? Or was there a gathering of people smoking dope together here or some place close by? Did the person or persons responsible for this mess appreciate the bright colours against the neutral grey or the pavement? I expect not. But it certainly caught my attention for a moment or two. No harm in making a picture. Anything can be photographed for whatever reason. There are no rules.

I'm preparing my book making tutorials and will post here shortly. Firstly I will show some of the books I have made over the years, Blurb books and handmade projects.

Back soon. Comments are welcome, as is coffee.

Thank you for your time.
