Working A Scene

Working A Scene

Feb 08, 2021

Hello again.

On Friday night I was feeling the usual lockdown frustration but at an elevated level. Cannot travel very far to make work. Cannot stay out for too long. No work on the horizon. Feeling financially crushed. Winter weather blues. All sorts.

So I grabbed my jacket and my little Fujifilm X100T and I headed out, despite the torrential rain. I told myself I would not return home until I had a decent picture. Very dark. Very wet. Very cold. Very motivated. Even excited at what might happen photographically. Hadn't felt that sort of anticipation for a while.

About 3 minutes walk from my front door I saw a scene I wanted to work. The wee bridge over the train tracks forms a hump in the road and the walls, soaked in rain, reflect the traffic lights of a pedestrian crossing turning the bricks red or green. As I approached, various characters passed by. Here are three of them. First up is my favourite followed by two rejected images.

This fella ⬆️ was yelling into his phone and appeared to be completely oblivious to me which suits me just fine.

This fella ⬆️, on the other hand, was wary of me and passed by most cautiously. As he came close I lowered my camera and simply nodded to him which seemed to put him at ease.

And finally this jogger whizzed past me at speed slightly too close for comfort. Had I adjusted my step we'd have collided. There was plenty of room on the footpath. Or perhaps this was all in my imagination as I had not heard him approach. One's instincts are acute after dark so I may have misinterpreted initially thinking he was just a tad aggressive.

Anyway, it's an okay picture of a one legged runner. And a tall one at that.

I had thick leather gloves on which still allowed me to operate my camera easily enough with my right hand while my left had shielded it from the rain.

Today I am working on my website. Cleaning it up. Simplifying it. Adding a print sales section. You might find something you like for your walls.

Comments are most welcome. As is coffee.

Thank you for your time.
