"Know your baselines" --- Key focus today: SCOPE BASELINE
After you have been assigned to deliver a project, this is the FIRST thing you need to focus on.
Why? A well-defined scope baseline protects your project and sets CLEAR expectations.
This is how I do it:
clarify what the project WILL DO and clarify what project WILL NOT DO - go into low level of details
re-iterate and agree with your stakeholders/customer in WRITING - this can be an email or a physically signed document
after agreement, make sure it is APPROVED
One more. In case your stakeholders are changing, the first action you need to take is to review with new person/persons the agreed baseline.
Why? To have clear expectations and understanding.
If a new stakeholder joins the project, the baseline cannot be changed.
Remember we are not in a BARGAIN SHOP.
Scope should be clear and precise.
