INAUAIA village women in Mekeo, Central Province, have launched their Women in Business (WIB) group last Friday.

Inauaia women’s group chairwoman Leontine Keamau said the programme is appropriate to drive the women’s initiative to gain positive growth in the community.

“Let us work together and join hands for the growth of the SME that will enable us to improve the standard of living in our village,” she said.

“We are grateful to have formed 10 groups who have already opened their accounts and received their passbooks with the Mama Bank. We expect many more women to join the group so that they can be able to receive and share equal benefits.

“I express gratitude to Kairuku-Hiri MP and Treasury vice minister Peter Isoaimo for supporting the group.”

Women’s Micro Bank Limited (Mama Bank) representative Felisa Inoino said it is a community owned bank and its aim is to help the grass roots women.

“We want to empower women with opportunities so that they become self reliant at managing their own small businesses,” said Ms Inoino.

Mr Isoaimo encouraged women to work in unity for the betterment of growing their small businesses. He committed K50,000 seed capital for 10 groups who will receive K5000 each to start their business projects.
