A Hungry Man

Jan 27, 2021

(Drabble; a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length)

I removed the banana from my bag and examined it for bruises. I’d been standing in line for over half an hour. I was a desperate man; hungrier than I’d ever been. Satisfied with its firmness, confident no one was looking, I curled my clammy fingers, gripped it tight.

This’ll do the trick.

Startled by a tap on my shoulder I lowered the banana down by my side and spun around. A white-haired lady pointed towards the front. It was my turn.

“How can I help?” the bank teller smiled.

“Stick ‘em up,” I replied … “this is a robbery!”
