What people in the UK like to do with Scrap items

In 2019, there were approximately 4.66 million people who were aged between 50 and 54 in the United Kingdom, the most of any age group.

Many people I have interacted with do not bother to earn from the items they don’t use. When asked the reason for it they said, where can I sell items I don’t use? How I can sell it?

The answer is there are so many applications available on the Play Store and App Store. But, why would I bother to take multiple calls just for the sake of a few pence? So, I keep things outside my home or hand them over to the Council. People take it as per their needs or I just dump things in the rubbish bin available in my area.

Many people from the age I mentioned earlier do not bother to sell things because they are not tech-savvy. When I asked what is the reason you guys are not ready to use apps available on a mobile phone, they said after so many attempts we learned how to use WhatsApp, and also we would not like to provide our personal phone numbers or home addresses to an unknown person.

This article may help companies whose primary users belong to age above 50 in UK.

User Research Process

The process I followed doesn’t have rocket science but just normal human steps to achieve the goal.

Identify the need for the product or service by taking surveys from people in the UK to finalize the primary and secondary user’s age group. Online research to identify the primary and secondary user population in the UK, which eventually helps the company to make an assumption on its revenue.

Survey Method

Two major methods for Surveys are Online surveys & Offline surveys. I have followed both methods to confirm the user base and their metal model. Since I was alone doing the offline survey it took me a bit longer. To do the survey I used to go to different places like malls, parks, supermarkets, underground stations, etc. I am glad that I used the offline survey because I end up selecting my primary users are those who are not at all tech-savvy.

Communication is the key to success for any kind of research. The more you interact with different people the more accurate your research is. I may or may not follow the book method for this research but I am sure the results I received are as accurate as those of the SUN in this universe.

Thank you for reading this article. Do comment and share your thoughts as I definitely would like to improve my skills in the research process.
