I will talk about my experiences installing the macOS Monterey beta on an external drive with an M1 MacMini, or at least my attempt to do so; you will have to hang on until the end to find out if it is successful.
I mention the M1 based MacMini because this is a very different install process compared to Intel-based Macs that are far easier to perform this with.
