Despite the short duration of the bout, McGregor recently claimed the event, UFC 246, was the biggest selling UFC pay-per-view card of the year.
McGregor returns to the octagon on January 23, 2021 when he meets Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 257. The card takes place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view. UFC 257 is the first scheduled PPV card for the UFC in 2021.
McGregor and Poirier first met in 2014. McGregor scored a first-round knockout win over Poirier in that contest. Two fights later, McGregor won the interim featherweight title with a TKO victory over Chad Mendes. McGregor unified the lightweight titles in his next outing when he knocked out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194.
In the co-main event, Conor Mcgregor vs Dustin Poirier will battle for the vacant lightweight title. Conor Mcgregor recently vacated the title as he plans his move up to the lightweight division, leaving the top contenders to square off to crown a new champion. Poirier is coming off a controversial decision loss to Jones, suffering the first defeat of his career in the process. Mcgregor is on a three-fight winning streak, most recently knocking out Brandon Poirier .

Among the most interesting bouts is Jake Matthews vs. Diego Sanchez as Sanchez nears the end of his career. He won his most recent outing by disqualification after Michel Pereira landed an illegal knee. Because of that, he's won three of his last four fights.

The main card at UFC 257 is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET, though Miocic and Cormier will likely not fight until much later; the main card consists of five events, the last of which will be Miocic-Cormier.

It’s been six years, 13 Poirier fights, and eight McGregor MMA fights since these two last shared a locked Octagon for a little less than two minutes. This time, they should each certainly be better hydrated and they both seem to be in incredible shape.
Since alternative stats give more weight to recent performances, it’s kind of nice that both fighters are coming off decisive losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov exactly two bouts ago. Any “Khabib effect” on their numbers should be in play the same way for each.
