Hello World 👋

Hello World 👋

Oct 24, 2021

Hi, I'm Umar (@umariomaker on Twitter), and I run renderchallenge.com.

I created the Render Challenge Company for two reasons:

  • I wanted to unite my passion for programming websites with my love for 3D art

  • I found that there was no one place that students, 3D professionals, and hobbyists could go to find render challenges that they can participate in and win prizes

With these two aims in mind, I started searching the web for 3D art challenges. I searched Google, Facebook, Twitter, and even Discord servers, and found about 10 different challenges currently running. I put these all together in a database a couple weeks back and shared it with the community:

So far the feedback has been all positive, so I've decided to invest more of my time and energy into this for the benefit of the 3D community.

My vision for the future of Render Challenge Company can be stated as follows:

"To inspire the next generation of 3D artists through community render challenges that put the creators first."

Based on this mission statement, I've figured out that I have some sub-goals that I want to accomplish in the near- and short-term:

  • Reward 3D artists for their hard work on their artwork

  • Foster a community around creating, learning, and sharing

  • Teach people how to get better at creating CG art

  • Create open and free tools for creating art that tear down the walls of the traditional industry dogma

I'm still figuring out the details of how to achieve all of those goals, but I'm committed to figuring it out and building things out in public with feedback from the community.

So if you're interested in what I'm doing or you're using the Challenges Database to find new challenges to participate, let me know on Twitter (@renderchallenge or @umariomaker) or email me ([email protected]).

And if you're feeling generous, consider donating. Every little bit helps motivate me to continue working on this project, and helps offset the costs of running things.

Anyways, that's about all I have for now. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for some updates about the company and where we're headed.

Till next time, have a good one 🙂!
