[ACTION STEPS] How to Easily Find Long-term, Low-risk Investments

Jan 25, 2023

Good Morning!

[ACTION STEPS] for this blog post.

Pretty simple one - don't pick stocks.

Invest in low-fee, dividend-paying, highly diversified ETF's/Index Funds that ultimately go up over time, even after accounting for all of the ebs and flows of the markets.

  • Go on Google or YouTube and search up "what is the best Index Fund/ETF in [insert your country]".

  • Search on YouTube "best stock investing sites [insert your country]".

Look into those Index Funds and sites in your own time and make sure that they're not "high-growth", say "currency hedged" or something or are in ANY particular sector.

We just want high-performing companies.

I came to these two conclusions:

  • Best Index Funds for me in Australia were Vanguard Australia Shares (VAS) and Vanguard International Shares (VGS).

  • Best investing site was CMC Markets Invest - share investing platform.

Tips

I used to invest 85% of my weekly paycheck while I lived with my parents. 80% of THAT was into VGS and 20% into VAS, I wanted that exposure to America more in VGS.

I now start and run businesses, so I no longer invest in any index funds/ETF's

  • Invest bits over time, no matter what's going on.

  • Don't pay people to invest for you, because no one beats the market. If you pay a "professional", they will statistically not likely get you better returns than Index Funds like the S&P500 if you're in the US. You'll also need to pay them all the fees to help you; not a great option ever.

  • Don't buy what everyone else is yapping about as being a great investment - that's what you avoid at all cost.

  • Don't panic sell EVER. This is your chance to build mental fortitude. "Market Psychology" as a field of study literally relies on the fact that most people are completely shit and hopeless at detaching their emotions from their purchases and investments, and lose money all of the time.

That's it!

Talk soon.
