I have been reflecting on the nature of art and memory on my creative writing blog, a Babel of Words.
Many artists put themselves into their art and have been remembered long after their deaths. It is a fascinating idea that art can serve to immortalize an element of us.
It may seem like vanity, but if whatever remains expresses something timeless and universal then the artist's creation has a function greater than himself.
And that sounds like pure magic to me.
