Save the Butterflies

Save the Butterflies

Jun 09, 2021

I read stories of what it used to be like to roam the streets of Brisbane. I remember feeling gutted and envious of those who came before us. The city was said to be swarming with stunning Richmond Birdwing butterflies! In fact, in certain pockets it was documented that you couldn't walk from one place to another without seeing several (sometimes hundreds!) of them in the treetops as you strolled along your way... But these accounts were from around 100 years ago...

Today there aren't many in the region, let alone Brisbane city.

We want them back! Thanks to the efforts of so many people who also dream of beholding this vision from the past for themselves, they are actually gradually returning! Sometimes sighted in gardens of the outer suburbs. I would be so thrilled to see them return to my suburb in my lifetime!

So here I am collecting funds for continued conservation efforts - and not just for this popular butterfly but also for some of the less popular animals! Haha... Here's how you can contribute: buy a brooch of the male Richmond Birdwing. This will not only give $2 in donations to the cause but also will support me the creator as well as the next pin: the female Richmond Birdwing!

Alternatively you can support this project by directly donating to conservation organisations or simply buy me a coffee here to show support both to me and them! <3

Thank you :)
