Superior is quite a stunning place geology-wise, and the Perlite Mine aka Apache Tears Mine is relatively easy to access and therefore a fun little trip that only takes a few hours. Because of Queen Creek most vehicles can't access Perlite Mine Road, so it requires a walk. There are other things to explore along the way, such as old mine buildings and an old Indian ruin. Check out this video to see my previous visit to the ruins and see some stunning views of Arnett Canyon and also the drive to Superior along scenic Hwy 60. https://youtu.be/GCn0q1ChZ24 Location: Park at Legends of Superior Trailshttps://goo.gl/maps/tKdz3rA4iFBkj3qn7, and walk up Perlite Road to here: https://goo.gl/maps/nJCrnzgXVBiS37FS7 Geology: Apache tears originate from siliceous lava flows, lava domes or ash-flow tuffs, often in close association with or embedded in, gray perlite. The spherules occur as cores within perlite masses that typically exhibit texture of concentrically curved, onion-skin fractures, continue here: https://bit.ly/3L7BeJA
