Today we hike to the Painted Hands pictograph and Split Level Ruin, which is located in the Butler Wash area of Comb Ridge near Bluff, Utah. The east side of Comb Ridge is inundated with narrow canyons that give the long ridge the appearance of a comb (You will see an image of it at the very beginning of the video). Many of these canyons contain ruins and other signs of habitation from ancestral Puebloans and others.
The trailhead for Split Level Ruin is about 9.6 miles north of Hwy 163, along Butler Wash Road. It's best to have a map downloaded or printed out before you head up this road, as most trailheads are NOT signposted, and there are tons of little dirt side roads, and without a map and taking note of the distance you've driven, you won't know what is what. There is little to no cell service in this part of Utah so you cannot depend on a phone signal to help you out. Do your research before you go!
