Whether it is a fantasy novel or an encyclopedia, children gain a lot of knowledge by reading books. Even Roald Dahl, author of the famous Charlie and the Chocolate Factory promotes reading in his poem TV. Nowadays, however, children spend less time reading books and more time glued in front of a screen.

I think that children should be heavily encouraged to read books from a young age because reading can help them to understand new and scary concepts and how to react to them emotionally, learn about the world around them, including their own culture and that of others, increase their ability to focus, spark their imagination and garner an extensive vocabulary.

Reading story books also help children to find common ground with other children and create social bonds with their peers. Aside from that, when a child is able to read by themselves, it creates a newfound sense of independence. This in turn increases their confidence in pursuing their goals and being able to do so will help them in other areas of their life.

Naturally, all things must maintain a healthy balance. Children are not meant to be cooped up in their rooms, eyes straining to read word after word. They need to spend time playing with friends, running around in the outdoors and spending time with their family. Reading is important, but so is relishing your childhood moments.

In conclusion, I believe that it is essential to let children read story books to improve not only their literacy skills and imagination, but also help them to develop emotionally, socially and psychology, an investment for their future
