What does a proofreader do?
Your work will be carefully and lovingly checked for a number of errors and omissions, including:
Spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors
Overuse of adverbs
Incorrect usage of words (commonly misspelled contractions, homophones, etc.)
Removal or new suggestion for repetitive words
Removal of filler words
Fixing broken sentence structure
Ensuring consistencies throughout with names, numbers, and US/UK spelling
What does a proofreader NOT do?
A proofreader is NOT an editor.
We correct simple errors with what we see - it is not our job to fix your pacing, plot, inconsistencies or get the chapter to the "correct" length. That is down to the author or editor.
If I do spot a plot or character inconsistency in the chapter, I'll happily put a note in to let you know. However, I won't actually fix the error, or be specifically looking for such problems.
What do I need from you, the author?
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL DRAFT OF YOUR CHAPTER, JUST IN CASE YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT ANYTHING.
All I need you to do, once you have purchased the proofreading package, is to send me an email (contact me on Twitter (my DMs are open for such things), or check the 'thank you' message following your purchase for the address) with your docx or Google Docs link and I will get to work immediately.
Please let me know if you prefer US or UK spelling. It will likely be obvious from your manuscript, but sometimes people blend them, and it's better to keep things consistent.
What about refunds?
Refunds can only be given as long as the work has not been started. Please do not charge-back as this incurs massive fees on my end; if a refund is agreed I will send the money back to you.
Once work is complete no refunds can be given, but if you are immensely unhappy, or I have missed something by mistake, I will happily rectify any mistakes for no extra charge.
The general turnaround for a chapter is up to 72 hours, but is often much quicker. If there are issues and more time is needed you'll be notified accordingly.
