Indefinite-personal sentences (pdf)

Indefinite-personal sentences (pdf)

May 14, 2023

Dear friends πŸ‘‹, from this post you will learn about indefinite-personal sentences having this pattern: zero subject + verb, 3rd person plural (principal parts of the sentence) + subordinate parts of the sentence like objects or adverbials (optional).

Indefinite-personal sentences are one-member sentences, which means that the structural subject of the sentence is missing, but the predicate (verb) is used. They differ from another type of one-member sentences, the so-called impersonal sentences, in the sense that the doer of the action is not actually (logically) missing, but is unknown, not mentioned or not important. The English equivalent to such zero subject is β€˜they’.

Besides, this is a good chance to revise the Genitive case-forms of nouns and add more new words on your vocabulary list.

Thank you.

P.S. You can read about impersonal one-member sentences (zero subject + reflexive verb, 3rd person singular) here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/selfstudru8/impersonal-one-member-sentences
