НОСИ́ТЬ vs НЕСТИ́

НОСИ́ТЬ vs НЕСТИ́

Jan 04, 2023

Dear friends 👋, today’s post is about the verb «носи́ть», 2nd conj. (imp.), which can be both a motion verb and a non-motion verb.

(1) When it is a motion verb, it means “to carry” and is used in its multidirectional function (for repetitive or simultaneous actions). Besides, it has a paired unidirectional form, i.e. «нести́», 1st conj.  (for an action in progress):

(2) When it is a non-motion verb, it means “to wear” and refers to regular actions. Then it cannot be used in the meaning of carrying smth in one’s hands. For repetitive actions, when multidirectional: Де́вушка ча́сто но́сит оде́жду в коро́бке / в рука́х (The young lady often carries clothes in the box / in her hands).

Thank you.
