First 3D shoot of 2023.

Feb 01, 2023

Last weekend I participated in a 3D shoot called “Cabin Fever” at San Francisco archers. I decided to challenge myself this shoot. Instead of shooting the tournament my default recurve (my Bear Super Grizzly), I decided to shoot my longbow.

Having only have shot longbow for a handful of months this was definitely a bit out of my comfort zone. Adding in 3D and unmarked distances was definitely a test.

The course was 28 targets and three arrows each target. The weather was chilly and I instantly wished I had two pairs of socks on, maybe some leg warmers and a vest. However I did have hand warmers in my pocket- but that wasn’t really cutting it. (Making a mental note to dress for the weather better).

I only zeroed out on one target and that made me feel great. However the amount of arrows first shot arrows that flew over the backs of 3D targets let me know I have to “get to know” my longbow a bit better. It definitely took me a few targets to focus and get in the “zone”. This also was a bit a of a realization that I really should set out a goal & a vision before a tournament starts.

The important part -- I had a blast, had an amazing shooting group, came in second and walked away feeling good and a sense of accomplishment.

next tournament is : CBH/SAA 3D California State 3D Championship (Two day shoot).
