This form of Buddhist Geomancy, also known as Karmapa Feng Shui, comes from the Tibetan Mahayana school of the Black Hat Sect. The term 'Black Hat' refers to the Karma Kagyupa school, a suborder of the Kagyupa (Red Hat) school, of which the Karmapa Lama (the lineage holder) wears a black ceremonial hat. Many of the practices of this school are closely tied to Hindu Adi Shaivism. Kagyu Karma Feng Shui uses the bagua chart differently than Classical Chinese Feng Shui. In Classical Chinese Feng Shui, the placement of the bagua is governed by compass readings and cardinal directions, while Kagyu Karma Feng Shui utilizes the bagua chart the same way for each home, with the front entrance always indicating the north direction. Karmapa Feng Shui imparts that the space itself is a macrocosm of its occupant, and the occupant has the inherent ability to manifest and change their own reality at will.
