Slanted Theatre is an Asian Australian theatre company. 

Slanted Theatre have taken the Sydney theatre scene by storm since its first production in January 2021 where we presented our debut production. We have since presented Lauren Yee’s 'Ching Chong Chinaman', short plays for Short + Sweet including 'What You Don't Know' and 'we regret to inform you that', Ovidia Yu’s 'Three Fat Virgins Unassembled' in collaboration with KXT bAKEHOUSE, 'Lady Precious Stream', a world premiere of two plays for Sydney Fringe's Chain Play and our most recent production showcasing 7 new works and excerpts to celebrate our 2nd birthday!

We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary, but we have already worked with over 90 Asian theatre-makers, including various directors, designers, actors, and more. Our aims are to work with Asian casts and crew, create relevant and interesting work, eliminate tokenistic casting, improve representation, to create conversation, and explore diversity within the 'Asian' community.

Creating indie theatre in Sydney is no easy task. We're super grateful to venues such as KXT bAKEHOUSE and Short + Sweet and Flight Path Theatre who have provided a helping hand in the past, but now that our community is growing, we foresee many productions which means an increase in costs.

Here are just some of the typical costs from an indie single production:
$3000 Venue Hire
$2000 Set
$1000 Costume
$500 Props
$300 Lighting/Sound
Then add on Insurance, Marketing, Licenses, Rehearsal Hire ($25/hour)
Our coming productions will have similar costs...

And that's not even including artist fees! All the artists, designers, and creators involved in Slanted Theatre are part of a profit share agreement which means we split the profit between ourselves post-show. This is the typical way to produce theatre in Sydney.

- archival footage to pitch in the future or apply for grants
- day-to-day costs like our website, insurance so that we can focus on generating profits for...cast and crew profit share!
