There are so many things I've learned from and adore about dogs. One of the things that strikes me today is their generosity.
They are generous with affection. They are generous with feedback in general and don't hold back how they feel about something or someone.
They are generous with their time. Part of that is because they don't often have the freedom to choose for themselves how to spend their days. If they did, though, I think that many of them would continue to generously give themselves to the humans that matter to them.
They are generous with their enthusiasm. Like affection and feedback, they don't hold back because they are concerned about how they'll look to someone else.
They are generous with the benefit of the doubt. Dogs seem to presume competence and good intent. They also don't seem to make judgments.
Maybe not so generous with sharing snacks, unless I am the one doing the sharing. And that's okay with me.
