Over the course of this crazy year, I discovered more and more great initiatives from folk musicians to stay inspired and motivated to keep singing and playing our songs. One of them was The Folk Forecast, started by Lucy Shields, who sends a newsletter every week with all the online concerts from amazing folk musicians we get to watch from wherever we are. Thanks to her, I discovered something called #tradsongtues - a hashtag under which traditional songs are shared on Twitter every Tuesday, around a theme chosen by the tradsongtues-community.
I only found out about this last week. And for me this is a wonderful way to relearn my own repertoire! In the past 2 years I have been largely unable to go to folk sessions due to pregnancy and then the pandemic. The theme for this week is "weather" - and I chose to relearn Cold Haily Windy Night, to find some fresh air in this hot week. These temperatures are not my cup of tea, but I love the late evenings of this season - the beautiful light, the elderblossom, the sight of the swallows and swifts skimming through the evening air!
