Singing outside: Shenandoah

Singing outside: Shenandoah

Sep 09, 2021

The other week, I was interviewed by musician community New Artist Spotlight. There was a question about my favourite location for a performance. Without thinking I replied "in the woods", because it brings the best atmosphere to my songs and I love singing with a background choir of birds and rustling leaves. After that interview, I was wondering why I don't start playing music in the woods more often - since I moved out of Amsterdam, I live a 5-minute-bicycle ride away from one. So I took my guitar and jumped on my bike and took off - but I found the heather in full bloom, so I played among the heather for this first video instead! I hope to be posting a lot more outside videos before the weather turns :)

The song I chose is written by one of my heroines, Anaïs Mitchell. It's a song that I find absolutely enchanting. The lyrics are so evocative that I find myself transported every time I play it. I've played it at the Mulligans session in Amsterdam many's a time because people keep requesting it. I hope you enjoy it too!
