“I’m taking Kim Do-young with me, too.”

All injured starting players of the KIA Tigers will board the spring camp in Canberra, Australia. Fourth hitter Choi Hyeong-woo, who was injured at the end of last year, solver Na Seong-beom, starting shortstop Park Chan-ho, Choi Won-jun, who is looking to return full-time, and starting third baseman Kim Do-young will train from the first day of spring camp. KIA failed to advance to the semifinals last year due to injuries.

Although the players ended the season unfortunately, they focused on treatment and rehabilitation and showed good recovery. We are preparing for the 2024 season in good health by coming to Champions Field to welcome the new year and working hard. Manager Kim Jong-guk welcomed, "Choi Hyung-woo and Park Chan-ho have also improved. Na Seong-beom and Choi Won-jun have also improved. Hyung-woo is hitting the bat and training hard. All five players will participate in the Australian spring camp as normal."

However, Kim Do-young, who was given a 4-month diagnosis, is expected to continue his rehabilitation training in warm Australia. As one of the starting players, he does not miss the camp and continues to have a sense of unity. Coach Kim said, "The weather in Australia (Canberra) is warm. Training there is better for rehabilitation. There are no problems with lower body training, including running. They say I can hit the bat with one hand. I can also play defense a little bit." He explained.

KIA started the 2023 season with injuries and was held back by injuries. Main gun Na Seong-beom suffered a torn left calf fascia at the WBC tournament and missed the opening game. In addition, Kim Do-young, who started the season as the starting third baseman, left the team after two games due to a fracture in the instep of his left foot. The two players returned at the end of June. With the return of the two players, the structure of the batting lineup has become stronger. In the second half of the year, they boasted a strong lineup that allowed them to move up to second place with 9 consecutive wins.

However, leadoff Park Chan-ho suffered ligament damage to the fourth finger of his left hand while sliding to first base in the Daegu Samsung game on September 12, and was unable to play as a starting pitcher for over 15 days. KIA sat down, mired in a 7-game losing streak. Still, he did not give up until the end and competed for rankings, but was unable to perform due to one injury after another. In the game against LG on September 19th, Na Seong-beom ended his season due to muscle damage to his right hamstring while running from second to third base. It was a fatal departure for a hitter who had hit an overwhelming batting average of .305, 6 innings, 18 home runs, 58 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.098 in 58 games.

Following this, Choi Hyeong-woo, the unwavering fourth hitter, suffered a comminuted fracture of his left clavicle, ending his season early as he was running toward first base in a game against KT in Gwangju on September 24th, but was caught by the foot of opposing first baseman Park Byeong-ho, who was defending. Shortstop Park Chan-ho suffered a fracture of his left ulna after being hit by an opposing pitcher's pitch during a game between KT and Suwon on October 4. The fourth hitter, solver, and leadoff suddenly disappeared from the batting lineup.

The injury nightmare continued. Outfielder Choi Won-jun participated in the Guangzhou Asian Games as a representative, but suffered fascia damage to his left calf after being hit by a batted ball during training. He returned home without playing a single game for the national team, and the season ended that way. A table-setting performance was needed in place of Park Chan-ho, but Choi Won-jun was also absent. Kim Do-young suffered damage and fracture to his left thumb ligament when he slid to first base to prevent a double play in the top of the 10th overtime in the final against APBC Japan held at Tokyo Dome in November. He was diagnosed with a whopping 4 months of life expectancy. .

KIA is one of the teams that defending champion coach Yeom Kyung-yeop cited as the biggest obstacle to their second consecutive victory. In order to actually become a match, it is absolutely necessary for the five injured starting players to perform normally. KIA is in a good mood for the new year. Successfully signed a contract with FA Kim Sun-bin, who had been through difficulties. As a sophisticated .300 hitter, he can handle any batting order and is the right person to serve as an important link.
