NC’s new foreign hitter Matt Davidson is quickly adapting to the team.
On the 11th (Korean time), the NC Dinos' spring camp was held at Reed Park Enex Field in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
Due to rain that day, the NC players trained indoors.
NC's new foreign hitter Matt Davidson learned the Korean word 'thank you' during his batting practice.
He practiced saying “thank you” out loud throughout his training. The coaches smiled at this sight. He has a strong will to quickly integrate into the team.
Davidson purchased coffee and donuts for the players with his own money prior to training.
NC officials said that Davidson prepared snacks in the hope that his colleagues would eat donuts and coffee and train with confidence in the rain and chilly weather.
In addition, Davidson said, “There is a popular belief that if you eat a donut before a game, you will become better at hitting sinkers. “This is because eating a donut makes me feel like a roller coaster, like a sinker (meaning that eating sweets makes me feel good). Of course, there is no game right now, so I don’t have to hit a sinker, but I hope my teammates will cheer up and train well today.”
Thanks to Davidson's attention to detail, the NC players began training happily despite the inclement weather.
Davidson was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round (35th overall) of the 2009 draft. He made his major league debut with Arizona in 2013, and hit 20 home runs for two consecutive years with the Chicago White Sox in 2017–2018. As of 2022, he had appeared in 306 career big league games, hitting .202 with 54 home runs.
Before recruiting Martin last year, NC ranked Davidson as their top priority, but signed with Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japanese professional baseball team instead. However, Davidson's attempt on the Japanese stage was a failure. In the end, Davidson left the team after one season and wore the NC uniform.
