5 minutes with the sea

5 minutes with the sea

Jun 16, 2021

The cold water stipples my feet like needles searching deep for relief as I walk, pebbles underfoot and sand between my toes. It’s been a week since I last skipped, childlike, amongst the waves, and I’m enchanted by the light dancing on the creases in the water.

I part the waves with legs that have been hidden from view for too long and as I do I catch glimpses of the veins standing proud across the bridge of my feet, blood coursing more slowly than it has in an age. And, whilst the water is still to collect its warmth from the sun it invites me to sink and slip under its cover. I’m tempted, but this is a momentary pause from the papers that I’ve left behind, laid out on my desk, and the calls waiting to be made.

I have just enough time to let my mind wonder, “where next?” I ask myself. “No where else....it’s perfect right here” my inner voice replies. “Perhaps those papers can wait a little while longer...”. I say to myself.

Some explanation

Inspired by Feast and Fables ‘shorts’ competition, I thought I’d write a few words about what the sea does for me; a different style to my usual - I was rather pleased with it.

I hope you like it too ❤️
