Long Time No Post.....!

Jun 07, 2021

Why hello there and welcome back, hope you're doing well and enjoying a return to normal life of sorts. I've been busy working almost everyday since restaurants re-opened and let me tell you, it is not fun and leaves me completely empty of anything I had. It's a tough job and some days I've wished that I was a customer and not an employee, but here we are! The paycheck at the end of it is always a nice bonus, especially since tips are now shared 50/50 between FOH and BOH! The waiters aren't happy - understandably so - but when I saw I'd got over £100 in tips recently it definitely (almost!) makes all the long days kinda worth it!

Anyway, I thought I'd just fill you in on what else has been going on with me seeing how it's been a while since my last post. First off, would you like a coffee? Mine's a soya latte whilst you're there, thanks so much!

OK so, I've been running more or less like usual - every other day - but when you're working a 50+ hour week it can be hard to find the time! But I did, I squeezed in a 15 minute run on my lunch break and felt so much better afterwards! It's amazing how it can make you feel, my tired, achy body was stretched out and felt ready to tackle yet another busy shift!

I'm now doing a training plan with NRC (Nike Run Club) which will see me being able to run for longer and better after 4 weeks. After completing the Couch to 5K and running with the guided runs on the NRC app, it feels good to have some sort of plan in place and something to aim for! Hopefully I'll soon be training for a 10K soon too!

I'm also doing a 5K in September - Race for Life for Cancer Research UK. You can sponsor me if you like! I'm aiming to raise £50 so every little helps! I can run 5K in just over 45 minutes at the moment, not quite the 30 minutes that's advertised but I'm hopeful that with the NRC training plan, my times for that will also improve.

Ok enough with the running (for the moment!) what else has been happening? Oh yes, we had Christmas mark II with my sister and her husband when they came up recently. It was so so good to see them both and celebrate - because of the restrictions in the UK we couldn't be together in December 2020 so we held off celebrating until we could all be together. We did presents, had Christmas dinner together and even went to Studley Royal at Fountains Abbey to do a walk together, followed by a pub lunch! So it was quite an action packed few days and despite me working all the time, I got to spend some quality time with family, which was wonderful.

My sister is coming up again soon as it's her 40th (ssshh!) birthday on 18th June. We're planning a meal out at a local Italian restaurant and probably a walk if the weather behaves. Either way, it'll be good to actually spend time together as a family again.

OK, I also went on holiday to Cornwall for a week with my parents, their friends and also their daughter. It was a gorgeous location, right by the sea which provided beautiful views as well as having a calming effect on me. Hearing the sounds of the waves was incredibly theraputic for me as was sitting on the sea wall and taking in the views whilst drinking a G&T! Just what the Dr ordered actually. There were plenty of walks, pub visits and time spent reading.

Needless to say it was just the break we all desperately needed. I had never been to Cornwall before but I absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning!

I also met up with some friends once we were allowed to and that was just amazing too. Never before have I craved social interaction as much as I did after lockdown. I definitely need to do more of this now the rules are relaxed - it's just a case of finding the time! (Story of my life...!)

Ok, I think that's it for now, I do have more to say but I'll save that for another post. Hopefully I'll get back to doing this more regularly now - I like the quickness and ease of writing a post on here as opposed to my blog. I feel like I can just write without having to worry too much about it!

I hope you've enjoyed this post, please let me know what you think by leaving a comment down below. You can also support my work buy 'buying me a coffee' - this helps me to keep creating content to make people smile. Your support is very much appreciated.

Thanks again for reading, hopefully I'll be back soon!
