New post: 🛤️ Discover the Hidden Gems Beyond Jancing Historic Trail + Taipingshan-Jialuo

Dec 20, 2022

Hi hiking friends,

Happy Christmas or happy new year if you don't celebrate Christmas in your country. I have a new post, and it's about the famous  Jancing (or Jianqing) Historic Trail. You probably have seen the image below if this name sounds new to you.

(Mother nature has transformed the cold railway track into something stunning).

What you will see on this post:

  • How to get to Jancing Historic Trail and Taipingshan by public transport

  • The amazing and short Jancing Historic Trail

  • The extended section of Jancing Historic Trail (permits required)

  • A glimpse of Taipingshan-Jialuo Lake Trail: trail info and how to apply for permits

Taipingshan is a popular tourist attraction in Taiwan all year round, especially in fall and winter. I did this hike with LOHAS in August 2022, and the high altitude and stunning forest made this short hike even better.

The 0.9km Jancing Historic Trail was part of the railway system for the logging industry in Taiwan decades ago. The total length of this trail is 5.5km (3.4 miles), but sections after the 0.9km collapsed years ago. The only problem with this trail is it's toooooo short!

Although it's short, mother nature has done an incredible job transforming the cold, heartless railway tracks into something stunning.

Lucky for us, with LOHAS' help, we could explore more other than the short 0.9km section. But please keep in mind that many terrains are rougher than the previous one. You must also apply for a police permit to hike beyond the 0.9km mark.

After Jancing Historic Trail, we also took on some parts of the Taipingshan-Jialuo Lake Trail. I did this trail in March 2019, but it rained almost all the way. I told a hiking mate I would make a website about hiking in Taiwan during that time. I forgot the hiker's name and never met him again after that hike. I want him to know that I did it.

I plan to do Taipingshan-Jialuo Lake Trail again, hopefully in 2023.

There are so many things to explore at Taipingshan, like Cuifong Lake and other trails. If you get a chance to visit Taipingshan, I highly recommend you spend more days and enjoy the tranquility only at Taipingshan.

That's all for now. Happy holidays and hope you have a great 2023!
