Everything That You Should Know About Professional Window Cleaning

Dec 28, 2021

In companies, the visual cleanliness of windows is not only aesthetic but also allows light and warmth to penetrate the interior more easily. Brightness is an important factor in the well-being of employees, as it improves the working atmosphere and influences the optimism of the occupants.

Furthermore, the cleanliness of the premises and windows helps to reflect a good image to its customers. It is therefore strongly recommended that you use companies specialising in professional window cleaning to optimise your company's cleaning operations.

In this article, we explain what Erhvervsrengøring is, how it works and what methods are used.

What is professional window cleaning?

Whether it's window panes, overhead panes, mirrors, skylights or glass partitions, windows are particularly prone to soiling: scratches, fingerprints, dust, dirt or white streaks from raindrops.

It is therefore important to clean and maintain them regularly to keep them shiny and bright.

Indeed, professional cleaning companies offer a variety of window cleaning services tailored to the configuration of each company's premises. This can include :

  • Frequent visits for the dirtiest areas;

  • Occasional cleaning for less exposed areas.

However, the frequency of window cleaning should be adjusted according to several factors such as

  • The use and traffic of the premises: for example, shops need to have a clean window throughout the day, hence the need for very regular maintenance;

  • The location (pedestrian street, busy road, seaside...);

  • The hazards of everyday life, bad weather and damage;

  • After the work has been completed;

  • At the end of the work, etc.

An effective window cleaning service is therefore based on several parameters:

  • The combination of the two options of frequent and occasional window cleaning;

  • The use of suitable cleaning products;

  • The use of quality materials;

  • The adoption of good cleaning techniques.

What types of windows should be cleaned in a company?

Window cleaning services cover both the exterior and interior of windows. In fact, everything that is glazed within the company is concerned, including

  • Glass panes (classic or rounded);

  • Windows;

  • Roof windows;

  • French windows;

  • Bay windows;

  • Shop windows ;

  • Glass doors ;

  • Mirrors;

  • Glass roofs ;

  • Verandas;

  • Glass railings, etc.

However, some areas are difficult to access and require specific equipment for the safety of the workers, such as cleaning operations at height in offices located in large buildings.

Office glass and windows

There are many configurations of office windows. The height, surface area and access conditions of windows and panes can vary considerably within a company.

In this respect, the use of the right equipment and products, and the right training of staff can ensure an efficient service, adapted to the customers' expectations in terms of quality and budget.

High windows

The difficulties of access and the fragility of windows, in general, make the cleaning of windows at height particularly complex. This complexity is often compounded by the fact that many windows are fixed and cannot be opened, requiring the use of special equipment such as cherry pickers, scaffolding and rope access.

This type of service, therefore, requires specific working methods, the possession of the necessary certifications and strict compliance with the safety rules for working at height.

How is a window cleaning operation carried out?

Window cleaning is generally carried out using specific cleaning products and suitable equipment such as squeegees and microfibre cloths.

The operation is carried out in three stages:

Dusting the windows

This step consists of :

  • Dusting and cleaning the contour of the PVC window (or the woodwork) with a cloth impregnated with a detergent solution.

  • Clean the glass.

  • Wipe with the window squeegee or a clean cloth

Soaking

This involves :

  • Washing the glass surface with the wiper.

  • Dip the wiper into the bucket containing the solution.

  • Wring out.

  • Twist the surface, starting at the bottom, in a spiral pattern, paying particular attention to the corners.

  • Wash the entire window.

  • Scrape off any embedded dirt.

Wiping

This step includes :

  • Scraping the surface with the squeegee using sufficient pressure to ensure complete adhesion;

  • Wiping off traces of water.

This last step can be done using several techniques such as:

The American technique

This method is applied by starting at the two edges of the vertical posts and the top horizontal post, then working downwards in S's across the width with the squeegee. The wetting device is located under the squeegee to catch the drips as they occur.

The Scandinavian technique

In this method, often used for cleaning windows with telescopic handles, the horizontal S's are replaced by vertical movements starting from the top left corner and ending at the bottom right corner.

The French technique

The squeegee is passed from top to bottom in adjacent columns on the upper 2/3 of the glass and from left to right in one or two horizontal passes on the remaining third. The squeegee should be wiped between each strip.
