How to choose a print.

How to choose a print.

What's the number one thing you look for when you're searching for the perfect print? Is it colour, style, size, price, delivery time? If you've been looking for a print recently, you've probably realised that it can be a little overwhelming, so I thought I would give you my 5 best tips on finding the perfect print!

Many of these points are entirely subjective, and there’s no right or wrong answer. That said, perhaps a little simplification might help.

1. Colour: When choosing a print colour, you need to decide what look you’re going for. If you want the print to stand out, something that contrasts the wall colour can work really well. Try to pick something that is opposite the colour of your room on the colour spectrum - for example, if you have yellow bathroom walls, a print in Dusty Blue, or Lavender will make the print stand out.

If you’re going for a more subtle look, choose a print in an adjacent shade or colour to your walls - for example a Mustard Yellow, or Burnt Orange.

2. Style: The style should match your overall home’s aesthetic. If you love the look of sleek, minimalism, a simple print can really add to the decor.

If, on the other hand, you’re a bit more eclectic you can experiment with something a bit bolder, perhaps with some bright, vivid colours.

3. Size: This depends on the available wall space, or how much of a statement you wish to make. With something like my ’Nice Bum’ print, I love it as a small print - something that you don’t perhaps notice until you’ve ahem sat down.

With a more risqué print, like my ‘People = shit’ print, it can work really well if you frame it up as a large, statement piece - own it!

4. Price: Obviously, your budget is going to depend on your own circumstances, but a good piece of wall art - something that means something to you, or makes you smile - is a worthy investment and, as with most things, you do get what you pay for. Cheaper prints, whilst tempting, are usually printed on lower quality paper, with lower quality inks that will fade quickly.

5. Delivery Time: Although this may not be something you had considered, delivery time can vary greatly. Many print sellers rely on an external ‘Print-on-Demand’ service to fulfil their orders. These are often not located in the country that you think you’re buying from and can add days, if not weeks, to the arrival of your print. Many ‘Print-on-Demand’ services also print on all manner of products, rather than specialising in just art print, and so quality can vary.

The whole point of supporting a small, local business is just that - it’s small and local! The chances are they specialise in only printing art prints, therefore the quality will invariably be higher, and the delivery time will be quicker due to their location!

I hope these little tips help you with your search. If you'd love to talk more about how I can help you choose a print then shoot me a message!
