Brand new article about consumerism and capitalist philosophy here.
I find it very evident that consumerist culture comes from the fact that money is intended to make us feel powerful. Whenever we buy stuff, be it useless furniture, junk food, or some weird clothing item from Wish, we exercise that power in order to feel better about ourselves.
But in reality, the problem is most often within us, and we cannot go about solving it by doing stuff in the exterior world. What we should do, however, is work on our problems and stay away from impulse buys. That way, our self-esteem grows and our wallet gets a little fatter.
