Speaking up in the meeting

Speaking up in the meeting

Dec 18, 2022

Dear friends,

I would like to share my notes on 🎬 speaking up in meetings by Brenden Kumarasamy, MasterTalks, this week.

Not everyone is comfortable speaking up in meetings, which could be cultural. Some people may need time to think and reflect before saying something.

I fear being laughed at by my peers and niceness/respect, like not wanting to make someone look bad or stepping on someone else’s feelings. But, I want to make a difference in meetings, so I must speak clearly and confidently. Here is what I learn from his episode:

  1. Structure my thought process by writing outline or bullet points.

  2. Understand people in the room before speaking.

  3. Listening to what others say and writing down ideas adds value to the conversation.

  4. Understand outcomes and explain the best way to achieve the result.
