[Asian Games] Fencing Women’s Saber Jisoo Yoon Secures First Individual Medal

Men's epee did not receive a medal... Jaewon Kim eliminated in the quarterfinals and Youngjun Kwon eliminated in the round of 16

Ji-Soo Yoon defeated Juliet Heng (Singapore) 15-6 in the women's saber quarterfinals of the tournament held at the University of Electronics Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China on the 26th, advanced to the semifinals and secured her minimum bronze medal.

In the individual fencing competition, the two semi-final losers will both receive bronze medals.

Jisoo Yoon, who won the team event at the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, won her first medal in the individual event.

She, who also contributed to the bronze medal in the women's saber team event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, is also well-known as the daughter of KBO Talent Donation Committee member Hak-gil Yoon, a former professional baseball player who played as the ace of the Lotte Giants.

In the round of 16, the first match of the tournament on this day, Jisoo Yoon met Paola Pliego of Uzbekistan and faced a crisis as she was pushed down to 3-7 in the beginning, but later scored 5 points with her signature rush to turn the tide and engage in a close match.

Even in the last minute, they were pushed to the edge with a score of 12-14, but they breathed a sigh of relief by scoring three consecutive goals.

After overcoming an unexpected early hurdle and even shedding tears, the quarterfinals that followed were played out rather easily and an easy victory.

Yoon Ji-su, after the quarterfinals, said, "In the round of 16, my opponent had a few unexpected points, so my mentality was momentarily shaken.

There were times when I thought I might give up the game, but I didn't give up my mind."

He said, “I thought somehow a medal should come from Korea.

"I don't have an individual medal in the Asian Games, so I had a desire to win one, so it wasn't easy because I felt greed, pressure, and tension all at once," he said.

"I will try my best again from the semifinals."

) ) was eliminated after losing 9-15 to Saoyachi (China) in the round of 16.

Jisoo Yoon will clash with Zainab Dybekova (Uzbekistan) in the semifinals scheduled for 7:50 p.m.

There was no winner in the men's epee individual competition that followed.

Kim Jae-won (Chungbuk Fencing Association) reached the quarterfinals but lost 11-15 to Akira Komata (Japan), and Kwon Young-jun (Iksan City Hall) lost 11-12 to Kano Koki (Japan) in the round of 16.

Korea's streak of winning in the men's epee individual event at the Asian Games, which had been going on since the 2006 Doha Games, came to an end.
