Asian leaders with an away trip to Malaysia

Nov 07, 2023

Ulsan Hyundai, which has reached the top of the K League 1 for the second consecutive year, will also continue to take steps to win the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL).

Ulsan, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, will play an away match against Johor Darul Takzim (Malaysia) in Group I of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League in Johor Baru, Malaysia on the 7th.

Ulsan, which has already confirmed its K League 1 victory last month, will be able to concentrate on the AFC Champions League with a lighter mind. Ulsan is aiming for its second consecutive win in this match by winning 3-1 at home against Johor on Oct. 24.

The overall condition of the team is not bad as it has had a break for more than a week since it defeated Daegu FC 2-0 and celebrated the K League title on October 29.

Ulsan, which has two wins and one loss, is in second place after Kawasaki Frontale (Japan), which has three wins. If they win two consecutive games against Johor (1 win and 2 losses), who is ranked third in the group, they can have a more advantage in the ranking competition.

Incheon United in Group G will play an away match against Shandong Taishan (China) on the 7th. Shandong is a team led by Choi Kang-hee, a great coach who led the Korean national team and Jeonbuk Hyundai in the K League. Incheon is seeking revenge this time after losing 0-2 at home to Shandong on Oct. 25.

Marouane Pelaini, a midfielder from the Belgian national team who plays in Shandong, scored a goal at the time. In Group G, three teams, Incheon, Shandong, and Yokohama (Japan), are in a fierce battle with two wins and one loss, so Incheon desperately needs an away win in Shandong.

On the 8th, Pohang Steelers in Group J will call Urawa Reds (Japan), the "defending champion," to Pohang for a home game. Pohang, which won 2-0 in Japan's away match at the end of October and leads the group with three wins, can begin to solidify its lead with four wins if it wins the match as well.

Pohang is poised to continue its upward trend in the AFC Champions League by beating Jeonbuk Hyundai 4-2 in the final of the Korea Football Association (FA) Cup on the 4th.

Jeonbuk in Group F will play an away match in Singapore against Ryan City on the 8th. Jeonbuk won 3-0 at home against Ryan City in late October.

Ryan City has a number of Singapore national team players who will play the first match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian regional qualifiers against the South Korean national team on the 16th.

In Group F, Jeonbuk ranks second with two wins and one loss, and Bangkok United (Thailand) with three wins is first.
