California Zephyr news and more

Mar 25, 2024

Hello!

If you read this week's email, you probably noticed that the California Zephyr turned 75! It's still one of my favorite trains because of the fantastic scenery, and it was also the first Amtrak long-distance train I ever took. I traveled that route mainly in March, which isn't the prettiest time of the year for that route, and I still loved it!

On April 8, 2024, the Zephyr will have a schedule change that will add a few minutes to the train's run time. It will leave Chicago at the same time but arrive earlier, but It will leave Emeryville earlier and arrive a little later. This change is likely a compromise with the host railroads to help improve the train's on-time performance.

Amtrak also adjusted the schedules of the Sulki and Illini trains for April 8 for those who want a premier solar eclipse experience. You can check those trains' schedules and event info on the schedule page.

Abby is still struggling with her arthritis. She is on a new supplement that is still kicking in. We overdid a walk, I think, which had taken her out for a few days. It breaks my heart to see her in pain.

I am preparing to play the organ for Holy Week, four days in a row, with one service each day.

This weekend, I accompanied a silent film that went well, and I might recode it for YouTube. The nice thing about the experience was that it was at my church and on the organ I have played for almost 20 years. Geez, am I old enough to say that? That helps calm the nerves and deliver a better performance. It was the third public performance I have done with silent films.

Travels with Kev will be around for at least one more year because the site's hosting got renewed this week.

I hope you are doing well, and thanks again for your support!

Safe travels and happy planning,

Kev
