Hi, everybody! Happy NEW YEAR!
Quick update:
I was laid low on Christmas Eve by COVID and have been suffering ever since. I got a pretty good dose of the virus apparently and my immune system pretty much folded at first contact. It's been an incredibly difficult week as a result.
Today, January 2nd, is really the first day that I've been up and around and relatively alert since falling ill and I wanted to let you know that the gap between episodes wasn't intentional. In fact, it may be up to a week before a new episode is released.
As of right now I'm going to push to release the next episode by January 9, which is a week from today. So that will be a full month since the last release, which is a bit shameful.
Currently my throat is sore and my voice is ragged but I feel like if things continue as they are I will be able to record on or perhaps even before the weekend.
I don't take the fact that everyone receiving this is contributing to this project financially and expects episodes as a result for granted. And I appreciate each and every one of you.
One thing I'm going to do to help prevent this from happening in the future is to record a sort of 'evergreen' episode. A subject which requires no current event context to be relevant. I'll then edit and store this episode to have on deck to help fill any gaps like this in the future. Hopefully I'll be able to build a store of 3 or 4 of these episodes to take care of sickness and other unforeseen circumstances in the future.
Going forward I am also going to increase efforts to release episodes every other week on a firm schedule (Every other Wednesday as an example). I've roughly had a bi-weekly release schedule but I want to make it as consistent as possible.
I'd love to do them weekly but with work, family, and life it just isn't possible. Not to produce what I view as acceptable content.
I am also considering releasing either shorter (10 minutes or so) but still well researched episodes, or perhaps longer but far less formal episodes, on the off weeks opposite the full episodes, but this plan is in its early stages.
Would you guys like to get off week episodes in either format or a mix of the two? Let me know!
So this is where we are at in the new year... recovering from COVID, making plans, setting goals, and still enjoying the journey.
