February

Mar 04, 2021

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13

February was a horrific month. We had a big freeze here in Oregon like Texas. Being trapped in my home for a week without power was a big challenge even if I had mostly everything I needed to survive in an emergency.

The night of the big freeze I kept hearing the snap of branches all around the house and I could hear the boom of whole trees as they hit the ground and hoping not the house. And down they came, all night and all the following morning. I could not believe my eyes when there before me where hundreds of branches, one crashing against another and all coming down in one big crash.

When I ventured out to see all the damage and snap photos, it became clear when a tree branch snapped and crashed a few feet in front of me, I was not safe.

I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness. Psalm 145:5-7

Getting out from under my warm blankets to cook a meal over an open fire was not fun and usually waited until late in the day to venture out. I made my morning coffee over a sterno stove. I had been ready for this event and for the most part, it wasn't too bad. When the water ran out from our tank, it was time to go. I packed a few belonging, my cat and stayed with a friend.

If that had been all that happened, it wasn't such a bad time and was proud to be able to tough if out. But the worst part was soon to be known. Stay tuned.
