We all have dreams!

We all have dreams!

May 31, 2021

We all have dreams. Some dream to become a doctor, while others dream to be something else.

I also have a dream... (or should I say had). Like a few people, I want to be a race car driver... For those who know me, I’m a diehard petrolhead. I absolutely love cars with a passion.

It all started back in 2015 (if I’m not mistaken 🤷🏾‍♂️) I’ve just been introduced to this thing called Formula 1... you know, that sport where we watch incredibly sophisticated machines zoom around a track at 300 kph for about an hour and a half. Ever since the day I got bitten by the F1 bug, I’ve been addicted to hearing that 1.6 litre V6 revving to 15 000 RPM.

One day, I had a thought while watching “Passion for Speed” at 7AM on IGNITION (channel 189 on DSTV). I thought to myself “I want to become a Racing driver. I want to race for a living”

Of course, I pitched my thought to my parents. They said they couldn’t get me karting...(I don’t quite remember the exact answer... but it must have been something along those lines) That day, my dream instantly turned into dust. In that dust however, laid a few chunks of reminders of what I wanted to do/be.

Time and time again I keep coming across these chunks of reminders, albeit in the form of a series of videos a YouTuber called Jimmy Broadbent released. I watched these videos, and I became immersed in them, always imagining as if I was the one sitting in the driver’s seat.

Now, I do tend to get emotional (kind of) whenever somebody brings up the topic of being a racer. At this age (16) I’m considered late to start any sort of a career. However, I look at it from this angle: “ Kimi Räikkönen is 41 years old now, yet he’s still racing.” Lately, during this COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve been watching this thing called sim-racing… essentially, just people playing simulation racing games competitively, and for some reason, I found it very interesting... So much so that I actually wanted to start sim racing... then again, there was another challenge: Money.  Just getting into Sim-racing is quite difficult. Firstly, there's the equipment. Because i've been searching for a way to start racing on a budget for quite a while, I know where to look...

Firstly, there's the PC:

*This PC is more than sufficient to run the latest titles such as Asseto Corsa and rFactor2.

Then we have my preferred mode of input:

*Works well for me...

You know, everytime I log on to Twitch, I always go to fill that void in me. I watch people like Wezza_SA - Twitch. He just does it for me...

In the end, i'm just trying to get to do what i've always wanted to do: Race for a living. Be it virtually or in reality. If I could just race, I'd be the happiest person... IN.THE.WORLD

Thank you so much for taking some time to read this incredibly long blog... It has taken quite a while to type this out. I'd appreciate it if you shared this blog with your friends and family, and followed this page!
