Did Your Team Win The Draft?

So the draft is over and everyone has left Kansas City.  The venue was absolutely amazing and the vibes were top notch.  So now what?  Well we are left to analyze how our team drafted.  Who they took where and who they should have taken or even if they should have traded the pick.  But let’s be honest, it takes at least three years before you can judge a draft honestly judge a draft but in this instant society we live in why not break it down!

But as you know I don’t do things the normal way.  I walk to the beat of my own drummer so let’s take a 10,000 foot view of the draft.  Most fans will look at the first round, the quarterbacks, and the big names.  The number one overall pick usually gets the most attention and rightfully so.  They are presumed to be the best player in the entire draft so of course they get the most pub.  As I said, let’s take a look at the bigger picture.

Even with the big quarterback names at the top of this draft it was a rather watered down draft.  But if you look at anyone who grades drafts for a living they graded most every draft at least a C.  It seems like every team was extremely happy with their draft.  We saw a ton of trades which would make one think that there were a ton of desirable talent and there could be 25 Hall Of Famers in this draft, but I don’t think that is the case.  I honestly believe that his draft was full of NFL starters.  There are a ton of guys who will be starting on Sunday for years to come but I honestly don’t think that there are any “generational talent.”  There isn’t a quarterback prospect that rivals the likes of Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence.  There weren’t any wide receivers that resemble Justin Jefferson or edge rushers like Aaron Donald.  I could go on and on.  Like I said, do I think a lot of these players are good…just not very good.

So all in all, is this a bad thing?  Absolutely not.  Sometimes serviceable and solid is better than potentially great.  Let’s be honest it was a fun draft to watch.  It was extremely unpredictable and it was filled with action. The NFL does an amazing job with their draft and to be honest it is the second most exciting day in the NFL schedule aside from the Super Bowl and they knocked it out of the park yet again.  So all in all, every team should be happy with their draft.  The Lions did well, the Bears did well and now it is the worst part of the NFL season…we wait until training camp!
