As I (Brent) write this, here's what we know. We know we want to get off the Patreon model which creates sort of an implied monthly transaction relationship. I know it doesn't have to be like that, and some creators don't use it like that, but it's the structure -- every month you contribute, every month the creators do something.
We wanted to get away from that for a couple important reasons: first, life is changing in ways that make that implied transactional relationship more of a stress than a benefit. We're putting up boundaries to ensure the core project -- the podcast itself -- isn't in jeopardy 'cause one or both of us burn out on the extras. Second, it doesn't really lend itself well to the person who wants to chuck a $5 bill in the guitar case as we busk. You gotta sign up for the thing if you want to support it. That's kinda dumb.
So we'll try this on for size! We still want to provide an avenue for those who want to support the project to do so (and a profound THANK YOU to those of you who do!), and we still want to cook up some fun extras that such support gives us an excuse to do. Zach and I have some baby-ideas that might turn into real-ideas, but I'll keep a lid on that for now.
Who knows if this will fit just right, but we won't know unless we try it.
