Of Relative Poverty & Of Absolute Povert ...

Of Relative Poverty & Of Absolute Poverty

May 15, 2022

In Malaysia, I would argue there's a problem on opportunity inequity and income inequity but not that of absolute poverty. We can go based on the stats or we can go based on empirical observation.

In shopping malls, in construction sector, in plantation sector, there is a shortage of workers. Even in retail, there's always demand for workers. In hotel line, same.

So the next time someone says no need to donate to places like Palestine and Syria, please know that at least in Malaysia poverty is relative, not absolute.

The converse is also true, wealth is relative here in Malaysia.

In places like Putrajaya, there are so many cars in flats, even low-cost flats that there's not enough parking spots.

That's how wealthy and prosperous this country is.

We should be thankful.

All praise to Allah.

Signing off,
