Inside Ukraine: Lviv

Inside Ukraine: Lviv

Mar 25, 2023

Hi!

Today I'm writing you from Lviv. It's my short one-day trip (tomorrow afternoon, I'll return home). It's some recharge for me and the possibility to take you inside Ukraine to show what we are fighting for.

It was raining here. Almost all day long. But I managed to walk a little in the city center. It's ancient and vibrant. You can find here tons of cafes. On every corner, on every spare meter.

I highly recommend you choose the hotel in one of the central streets: Virmenska, Serbska, Krakivska, Staroievreiska, etc.

The hotel I live in now? Vintage Boutique Hotel. It's a cozy and friendly place with a good cafe inside it (I wrote there today). The place perfectly suits Lviv.

As for the cafes. Lviv is famous for its good food, chocolate, and coffee. I don't know. The breakfast I had today was not bad. But sometimes (when I am in Lviv - not often), I think that cafes try to impress people more with design and atmosphere than with food (but the food is really good too).

I promised to share the name of the cafe where I had a not-so-bad breakfast (sorry, I won't share the picture of the breakfast as I don't like the shot I took). It's even an art center, not only a cafe: Dzyga. Coffee? 4 stars. The cafe below is sweet. Called Biblioteka. I tried warcoffee and cake there. So in Lviv, you can eat, walk and admire its ancient architecture. I took some pictures for you to feel a little of the city's mood. You might need two days to explore Lviv. Of course, there're a lot of historical places to visit. But I'm not the 'monuments person'. I like to walk and watch (and have coffee, of course). By the way, I had so many cups of warcoffee today that I don't know how I will be sleeping at night.

The important thing I noticed today (even mentioned in one of my tweets) is that Lviv seems much calmer and safer than Kyiv (I mean, the war). Kyiv is a serious old brother, protective and wise. And, of course, it's a target to russians as it's the capital, the heart of Ukraine.

For me, Kyiv is closer. But I am sure that you need to visit Lviv after our victory. It's a wonderful and totally beautiful city. But please be ready to eat a lot. It's Lviv, the capital of Ukrainian food and chocolate (the chocolate is delicious).

And my favorite picture from today. Wings and their chair. I would love to have it at home. Just can imagine how good writing might be while sitting on a chair with wings. It's raining again. The city is still noisy. It has a curfew, too (still an hour to it). I like listening to the rain. It's like the rain is talking to me, telling some story about its city.

Lviv. Ukrainian princess. Thank you for reading this letter. And sorry for too many pictures (they might be heavy for your email box).

Hugs from Lviv,

Yara (or Yaroslava)
