National Opera of Ukraine. Where the history sings

Oct 03, 2022

Hi!

I hesitated if I had to write you about National Opera. You probably visited much more beautiful operas in your life. But it's you who has to decide whether our Opera is cool or not.

I'm writing in a totally rainy day (autumn here). So the mood is perfectly right to tell you about one of the historical places of Ukraine (I really don't know why these two things are connected).

______________________________

Recently (on Sunday) I had a guided tour to National Opera. Our guide, Larysa, has been working there for 30 years. She is completely in love with what she does, Opera buildings, its people (1100 working there), dresses, stairs... everything. Larysa is one of those who always admire me: dedicated & in love (ok, it's my relationships with coffee, probably).

I won't be retelling you Wikipedia (by the way, a great page to read). I see my task in giving you some (even small) reasons to visit this place.

Old. It's opened its doors in 1901. Situated in the heart of Kyiv: Volodymyrska str, 50. Just 3 minutes walk from metro station Golden Gates (Zoloti Vorota - you'll read or hear this phrase).

Magnificent. Tons of different buildings. Below I'll show the model of a modern Opera building (but please sorry for the picture's quality, sometimes my hands are so clumsy).

Our guide tour was looong. We visited rooms where dancers were rehearsing, opera singers were preparing for their performances, even the dining room was on our way. Probably, 2 hours' tours aren't for me 😅.

But-but, I have something for you. If someday you'd like to visit Opera (btw, the English version of website is here), please, buy the tickets until the 8th row. The chairs from rows 1 to 8 are very ooold & rare. Others are quite new (but they look the same very much).

Other thing I want to share (don't know why you need this) that in Opera in 1911 was killed Prime Minister of russian empire Pyotr Stolypin. It was 12th attempt (successful one). May be we should invite putin to Opera (sorry for my black humor).

What else-what else? If you haven't seen my tweet with some backstage (& stage as well), it's here. I shared a very short #1minutewalk.

So now some pictures & hugs & tons of gratitude that you read, maybe even support this fresh #warcoffee blog.

P.S. Am I not toooo boring?

Enjoy this post?
