The Power Of Music

By Jo Watt

Music has the power effect to spark memories, capture a moment and shift our mood. It’s a powerful form of self care as it directly impacts our brain. Music releases dopamine in our brain, which is a chemical that positively shifts our mood by sending a reward to our brain.

Music has the ability to:

  • Reduce stress & anxiety

  • Improve memory & cognitive abilities (which is why it is a great tool for people suffering dementia or alzheimers)

  • Eases physical or emotional pain. I’ve found it helps me a lot shift emotions or I’ve found words in song lyrics that have helped me express what I haven’t been able to articulate in words.

  • Make you feel connected and happy.

  • Shift your mood

Personally I love to jam on my piano, sing, play my sound bowls or drums and just have fun playing music intuitively or making playlists of my favourite songs that speak to me. You don’t have to be musically gifted to play an instrument. All you have to do is just let the music speak to you and play the way you feel intuitively drawn.

| Creating a Happy Playlist

We all need a happy playlist. Music that makes us laugh or smile. One that boosts your mood and makes you want to dance around the house or sing in the car out loud.

All you have to do is simply think of songs that have made you happy or that have uplifted you or made you want to sing or dance in the past and then just create a playlist.

Here is one of my Happy Playlists for you to enjoy.
