The story of Tamidora: Bladesinger

The story of Tamidora: Bladesinger

Mar 24, 2022

This is the background story for my bladesinger that I'm going to be playing in an upcoming campaign of D&D 5e.

80 years ago the great Orcish Warchief Tharrock, Butcher of A Thousand Forest, Slayer of Man, Destroyer of Tanova led an orcish horde across the known world, pillaging and conquering. His quest for supremacy over all left many nations of the world trembling at the thought of his horde approach. His lust for war and his victories lead him to assault the woodland realm of the elves believing they held powerful artifices and magic he could use to control more territory.

The elves put up a valiant defense and the orcs could rarely penetrate into the forest without losing hundreds. But the numbers of the orcs was vast and the elves could not afford their losses. Concerned for defeat the elf lords made a desperate gambit to ambush the horde as it slept on their door steps. They summoned back home the great elvish Bladesinger Anariel to assist them. In the battle Anariel sought out the Warchief and dueled him in what was said to be one of the greatest displays of martial combat. In the end Anariel disarmed the Warchief of his famous scimitars and tripped him up so he felt to the ground. Laying there defeated Tharrock knew he was dead. The elf stood above him ready to slay her enemy. But then the defeated orc turned and begged for his life. His pleads were heard by his horde who were disgusted by this cowardly act and abandoned the field and their dishonored warchief to the elves.

Seeing his horde abandon him and feeling the shame of dishonor the warchief fell into a great depression and apathy. Unwilling to kill a foe who was no longer a threat Anariel spared his life and took him captive.

For many years Tharrock sat in disgust with himself, uninterested in living but unwilling to die. As warchief he had enjoyed life to the fullest taking part in every delight and vice imaginable, but now he was lost, a prisoner in a land of people unlike his own. But away from the war and bloodshed, with no vices to fall back on Tharrock's blood calmed, his rage subsided and he began to learn to enjoy gardening and taking part in the simple things of life. The once feared orc learned the ways of the elves, their love of life and preserving beautiful things. Anariel saw the change come over him and the two walked in the forests and meadows talking of the world, of their experiences and different points of view, until at last was born a daughter of these two former enemies.

Life for Tamidora was rough. Raised by elves in their ways and customs, but always looked down on and treated as an outsider she was the first blamed when anything went wrong. Tamidora was easily goaded into fights with other children for being different. Her mother loved her dearly and instructed her in the ways of magic and bladesinging. Her father made sure Tamidora knew how to defend herself, knowing she would be challenged every day for her existence, though he never picked up a lethal weapon again.

Tamidora came of age earlier than other elves at the age of thirty. It is unclear how long she will live, but it is noted her father is a hundred and twenty, far exceeding that of any other known orc in history. Due to her skill as a Bladesinger and considerable affiliation for magic Tamidora was offered a place at an prestigious magical academy strictly for elves. On the day of the acceptance however one of the administrators commented that "She has been offered a place despite her racial heritage being a disadvantage and should feel honored." Despite the years of discipline installed in her by elvish training something orcish inside her made her blood boil. In a fit of anger Tamidora loudly announced she would not waste her life studying at the academy and stormed out. Unable to feel like she fit in with elvish society she was determined to leave the kingdom. Her father and mother were sad but both knew that this was something that she had to do. Tharrock gave to her the scimitars from his days as Warchief, and Anariel gave to Tamidora a magical cloak to protect her.

Setting out into the world Tamidora was amazed to find what she had been missing in the forest for so long. She first sought out her father's people, but they rejected her as weak compared to orcs, and her father was still remembered as a a coward.

Rejected by both worlds, Tamidora traveled and entered into the world of Man. Though she was met with some hostility at first humans were more accustomed to mix-race species and they had no personal vendettas against her. To make money Tamidora has turned to her bladesinging performances and travels between towns performing at inns and taverns, but more recently her performances have attracted the attention of some richer clients and nobles and she has been invited to perform for some local lords and barons.

Tamidora has become convinced that the orcish people could be more than their savage ways if they were given a chance to grow in an environment like she and her father had. Not content to stay in one place she moved from place to place performing and attempting to find a way to improve both orc and elvish societies to become more than the set in ways both cultures have become.
