When I first became a widowed parent, I went looking for the book that would tell me what to do.
Yeah … it doesn’t exist. Not yet, anyway. (I’m working on that.)
There are so many great resources out there, but they are fragmented. A good book on this, a good resource for that. That doesn’t make it easy to figure out what we all want to know:
How do I talk with my kids about difficult subjects like death?
How do I do this new job of ‘only parent’?
How do I raise grieving kids?
All while grieving yourself, of course.
So I decided to fill that gap. I realized I could reach out and talk to people, and share those conversations with widowed parents like myself.
And just like that, the Widowed Parent Podcast was born.
It’s been so great to talk with people each week. People that I think you’ll find interesting. Insightful. Helpful.
I’m honored that so many widowed parents tell me they do find the show helpful. The Widowed Parent Podcast has listeners in all 50 US states. 53 countries. All continents except Antarctica. (Do they even have podcasts there?)
Each time I receive a note from a listener telling me how the podcast has helped them feel less alone, or provided them with much-needed information, it reminds me how worthwhile this work is.
Of course it’s not free to run a podcast like this. There’s the web site. A bunch of other tech tools. Editing. Marketing. I could go on.
And there’s my time. As a now-single-parent of two teenagers, I’ve got to be a bit practical, too. Because this is a great job, and I’d love to keep it. :)
