leave the bones

leave the bones

Leave the barren bones
Of the past

Long gone

Dead and buried
Where they belong

Lest they live on
As the lingering ghosts
Of the present tense

Clinging desperate
To every future breath
They haunt

Only to become entombed
With their rotting stench
Of death

Buried under deep
The decaying

Heavy depths
Of regret;

Yes, leave
Leave those bones

And the empty hell
Of skeletal shells

No longer nutrient dense

Where Love
In Peace

May rest ~

Finally,
At home

Cradled
Gentle and safe

Within the warmth
Of its own

Compassionate Kindness…
