As humans we are so obsessed with beauty of things; women, men, children, places, clothes, shoes, cars, phones, jewellery, aesthetics basically! We are very very obsessed with how pretty a certain character is and will decide the amount of respect or affection we need to offer towards it. Take for example a guy or girl: this person lives a mediocre existence. He or she isn’t the life of any party, is not treated the same way an attractive looking peer would be treated! Even if you are sweet and kind, it depends on how pretty you look to get ahead at work, in a family, in a circle of friends or in society where everyone has their own judgement standards which is obviously not in favour towards this person. I have witnessed how the attractive looking person would be spoken to softly, while some of the stronger looking or “doesn’t fit society standards of beauty” person gets a much more stern or casual nod while waiting to be seated. Life isn’t fair to all & I get that; but looks matter in this world & the ones with it wins at most levels! Take for instance, the Mean Girls movie, Regina George is winning and being called the Alpha of the pack (which is a good thing I’m told) while poor little Cady Heron has to change herself to fit the perfect girl image only to find out later that’s not who she wants to be!
It doesn’t make sense to me! Yet, the concept of the alpha winning precedes everything, even over the fact that a girl like Cady can do better than her!
Sounds like a personal rant, it isn’t! Just that this world at times is extremely brutal & cut-throat; how are we progressive as a race is beyond me!
