Weekly Blog #18 - June 13th 2021

Jun 13, 2021

It's Sunday again and it is time for another blog! I honestly don't have anything exciting to say this week which I suppose isn't a bad thing in one sense but as I don't have much to say about this weeks events I'm going to talk about next weeks incoming Nintendo Direct for E3 and talk about what I would like to see from the video!

Nintendo Direct for E3 is happening on June 15th at 5PM BST (British Summer Time) and sadly I will miss it live so I will be watching it later that evening instead so none of you will see spoilers from me of the Direct on any of my social media platforms, at least not until around 5 ~ 6 hours after it ended!

To start off with what I want to see from the Nintendo Direct I would like to see some information on future Animal Crossing New Horizons updates!

I know some people will not want to see anything like this but as someone who really loves Animal Crossing but is getting bored of the usual stuff in the game, I would like to see some more updates added to the game as that is something that Nintendo said they would want to do to keep the game exciting for years to come.

The updates in question don't necessarily need to be huge, I personally would he happy to just see more events happening in real-time or perhaps more themed events similar to the current one in Animal Crossing New Horizons which is the wedding themed event again but at least this time we got some new items in relation to it!

I would also like to see some of the facilities from past games that have yet to make it into Animal Crossing New Horizons such as Brewsters café - preferably as an add-on to either the museum or one of the shops.

On a similar note I would like to see more updates for the shops, especially Nook's Cranny as we only got one update in this game whereas in past games, we got multiple upgrades to the shop which also gave us more items to purchase too.

Mini games is something else I would like to see in New Horizons too! Animal Crossing New Leaf gave us the island tours which also enabled us to play mini games with either friends and/or strangers over the internet. With New Horizons theme of islands this would be very fitting with the theme of the game and won't take away the feel of the game at all, it would also likely bring back some more players to the game again as a there few people have said publicly online that they have grown bored of New Horizons and have stopped playing the game unfortunately.

Adding mini games may even give the game more sales, New Horizons still sells reasonably well for a game that is over a year old now so I can't see Nintendo abandoning Animal Crossing New Horizons anytime soon!

If I haven't mentioned it in the blog before, I am a big fan of Fire Emblem and absolutely loved Three Houses. Why am I bringing up Fire Emblem Three Houses?

Well I would like to see a new game added to the franchise for the Switch or even better yet make one of the original Fire Emblem games available to play on the Switch!

Fire Emblem has a big fanbase amongst Nintendo players (especially if Fire Emblem Heroes is anything to go by) so I would love to see Nintendo reveal some Fire Emblem related news!

Personally I would like to see one of the original games added to the Switch just like how Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light was made available on the Nintendo eShop (note to self: I still need to complete it 😶)!

As someone who enjoys playing JRPG's, Fire Emblem just has that special charm to it that keeps me invested in the franchise, especially in the games. The original Fire Emblem games are far more difficult than todays Fire Emblem games as in the past games once you lose a unit/character that is it - you have lost them for good... in your playthrough of the game at least anyway! In the more recent game additions you have the choice of more difficulty levels and also the choice of whether your units/characters revive at the end of a battle if they die or not, which makes them more accessible especially to those who only want to play casually. Seeing the original games becoming more available on the Nintendo Switch would be amazing for the older Fire Emblem fans and newer fans who want to experience the original games alike.

To keep to the JRPG topic for a minute, I want to bring up Project Triangle Strategy.

I played the demo back when it released earlier in the year and would absolutely love to see more information about this game and also a potential release date too!

I have high hopes for Project Triangle Strategy, it gives me Fire Emblem vibes whilst also having the beautiful graphics and art of the 2D graphics in the Unreal Engine as featured in Octopath Traveller - another JRPG that I absolutely love (and have also still yet to complete 😶)!

The beauty of Project Triangle Strategy lies in the decision making side of the game; each decision can make a huge difference in the game for you and can also determine what characters will join you in your adventure, who will become your enemies etc.

Project Triangle Strategy has the potential to be a game that people will want to playthrough multiple times to see the different endings and paths in the stoyline. This is what I am most looking forward to, makes the game much more exciting to play!

I'm sure we all knew I would also bring up Pokémon - with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl coming in November 2021 I would love to see more gameplay footage mostly.

As for the gameplay side of things, I would really like to see the return of Pokémon Contests again, I was a huge fan of these as a child and would play the Pokémon Contests all the time I would have the chance to, I'm sure some days I would spend more time doing the Pokémon Contests than actually playing through the main storyline!

I would also like to see the Battle Frontier make a return in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl! The Battle Frontier is something I miss from the old Nintendo Advanced and Nintendo DS Pokémon games. Sure we still have a Battle Tower in the games nowadays but the Battle Frontier was where the real fun was! There multiple different battle facilities where you could take on different trainers under different battle rules etc.

The Battle Frontier was more of a Gen 3 thing in the original games but we did get bits of it in the original Gen 4 games.

It will also be interesting to see if they have changed the graphics for the game as a lot of people didn't like the art style of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. I personally really enjoy the nostalgic feel that Game Freak went for with the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl but I feel like a lot of fans were hoping for Game Freak to utilise the power of the Nintendo Switch more.

Unfortunately Game Freak is a small company so they are limited as to what they can and can't do with the strict deadlines they are under to produce new Pokémon games due to the popularity and demand for the franchise.

To continue with the Pokémon talk, I am really looking forward to new footage and news on Pokémon Legends Arceus.

The gameplay footage we have already seen for this game looks absolutely amazing and I will be getting this game no matter what!

With Pokémon Legends Arceus being based on the Pokémon world in the past - before what could be considered 'current day events' in the mainline games - it will be very interesting to see how the mechanics we are used to seeing in the mainline games will change to reflect how things would have been in the past and how different the regions in the Pokémon world look compared to how they look in the mainline games.

It will also be interesting to see what Pokémon will be available to catch and battle with in Pokémon Legends Arceus and also if we will see some Pokémon have different forms to reflect how they have changed over the years in the Pokémon world potentially.

With Oshawott and Rowlet being featured as starter Pokémon in the game it is safe to say that we will also see newer Pokémon in the game and not just Pokémon from Gens 1 to 4.

I feel like more people are excited about Pokémon Legends Arceus than they are for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Versions which is half a surprise and half not a surprise. Not surprised because Pokémon Legends Arceus has HUGE potential however I thought Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl would see more hype due to them being remakes of games that were released over 10 years ago and are part of a lot of Pokémon fans childhoods - Diamond and Pearl were definitely a part of my childhood growing up.
